Mary Johnson Obituary

Mary F. Johnson, 83, of Hemphill, died Tuesday December 10, 2019.  She was born July 8, 1936 in Silsbee to J W Kirkendall and Ethel Allen. She lived in Silsbee for many years until she and her husband Dewey C. Johnson moved to Hemphill, Tx in 1996.

Moving to Six Mile on Toledo Bend was one of mom and dad’s dreams after dad retired.  They quickly made it home and soon became a member of Six Mile Baptist Church in July 1996.  They have been faithful, first and foremost to their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, but also to their wonderful church home and family since that time.  It’s no secret among her family and friends that they both loved to fish and did so every chance they got. We have told so many stories the last few days of all the fish hooks that mom would catch in her hands and feet on her quest to catch the “BIG” one. There were many things our mom loved but her Lord was first on the list with our dad being second, then her family and her church. The last few years she had one true love that none of us could compete with and her name is Pattycake.  Pattycake was mom's closest friend at the end and no one was allowed to fuss at her or say a cross word to her without the wrath of mom.  Mom also loved her outside plants, especially her blue hydrangeas, which is why you see these beautiful flowers incorporated into the flowers on her casket.

Mom was very passionate about what she believed and also about the people she loved, especially our dad.  They had a marriage that many today will never understand, one filled with love and admiration for 65 years.  He was the love of her life and she will be standing at the gates of Heaven when he gets there saying "What took you so long?  We got some fishing to do!"  As her family, we all feel blessed to call her mom and nanny.  We will one day reunite and have the greatest reunion and listen to the stories of the first time she got to see grandma, grandpa and Aunt Melba again.

She is preceded in death by her parents J W Kirkendall and Ethel "Allen" Kirkendall and sister Melba Gore.

Mary Frances is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Dewey C. Johnson of Hemphill; sons Donald Johnson of Silsbee, and David R. Johnson and wife Theresa of Warren; daughter Kathleen Delcambre and husband Larry of Nederland; grandchildren Dewayne Johnson, Mandy Delcambre, Jeremy Delcambre, David Alan Johnson and Jessica Hogland; seventeen great grandchildren, three great, great grandchildren and brother Kenneth Kirkendall and wife Joyce of Lumberton.
