Alice Virginia Mayberry, also affectionately known as “Ginger” or “Nanny,” 71, of Silsbee, passed from this life on Saturday, August 23, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones at Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas. She was born on Tuesday, January 19, 1954, in Chester, to Hollis Stevenson and Florence Elizabeth (Haynes) Wright.
Alice loved dogs and managed Riley Top Dog Kennels for many years. She will be remembered for her love of the beach, the river, fishing, and especially, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will forever remain a loving wife, mother, and Nanny.
Survivors include her daughters, Leslie Nicole Thompson, Erica Welch, and Glenda Hancock; grandchildren, Brittany Kay Melancon and her husband, Christian, Joshua Fredergill, Jody Wilson, Christian Bowden, Destiny Bowden, Richard Van Horn and Shannon Cowart; great-grandchildren, Brady, Jayden, Cadence, Sophia, Gracelynn, Octavia, Oliver, and Blakeleigh; brothers, Billy, Carl, and sister, Robin Wright; and long lasting friend, Annette Yount; and brother-in-law, William Burden.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of many years, John Mayberry; her “Sweetie” James Erwin; her “Poppy” Cecil Riley; daughters, Virginia Christina Benton, and Charlotte Jean Bowden; brothers, John, Floyd, Tommy, Mody, Steve, and Mike Wright; sisters Pat Bennett and Sue Burden.
Mrs. Mayberry's cremation arrangements are under the direction of Farmer Funeral Home.
