Charlotte (Wells) Cowart

Charlotte Ann Wells Cowart, 89, of Lumberton, passed from life on Wednesday, May 13, 2026. She was born on Monday, December 28, 1936, in Lumberton, Texas. (formerly Loeb, Texas) to Clarence Milton Wells and Myrle Lucille (Stephens) Wells.

Charlotte was the owner of the Wagon Wheel Restaurant in Lumberton and West Texas Style BBQ in Silsbee. In 1972-1981, she stepped in and took over the reins of the Wagon Wheel Restaurant in the newly incorporated City of Lumberton (1973). Famous for her chicken fried steak, chicken n’ dumplins, and of course her Mama’s fabulous hot rolls.

She also served diligently for 17 years as Campus Director over East Texas Christian Center as well as the cafeteria manager for East Texas Christian School.

Ms. Charlotte is survived by her son, Robert (Bobby) Bodle and wife Henny of Lumberton; daughter, Diana Sierk and her husband Charles of Santa Fe, Texas; son, Craig Burge and wife Rae of Spring Branch, Texas. Grandchildren; Ben Bodle and wife Ambre of Boerne, Texas, Sheah Bodle of Lumberton, Texas, Whitney Spears and husband Michael of Mission, South Dakota, Chad Burge and fiancé Jenna Day of Houston, Texas, Caitlin Burge of San Antonio, Texas, Brant Burge, and wife McKayla of Bulverde, Texas. Great-grandchildren, Savannah, Tynslee, and Tanton Bodle, all of Boerne, Texas. Sisters; Kathy Cates of Chidester, Arkansas and Paula Thompson of Lumberton, Texas.

Proceeded in death by her parents; sisters, Glenda Blaylock, Jackie Collins, Mary Smith and dear friend, Georgia Cotton.

Ms. Charlotte will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
