Obituary

Darrell Lee Fenner, 72, of Silsbee passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2023. He was born on January 7, 1951 in Gothenburg, Nebraska to the late Earl Fenner and Lorene Geiken Fenner.

Darrel lived an extremely fulfilled life. He had many many hobbies and accomplished a ton over his 72 years on earth. He started his life in Nebraska where he attended school. He liked to play the guitar and he was in a band with some friends in high school. He was a farmer in his adult life and ran all kinds of farming equipment where he actually had a near death experience once. He fell into a piece of machinery and they thought he may not make it, but in true Darrell fashion and being the fighter he is, he miraculously pulled through and came out stronger than ever. In 2005 after hurricane Rita he relocated to Louisiana in an effort to help rebuild the nearly destroyed Gulf Coast. While there after the rebuild he opened and ran a used car lot. Darrell was very involved in the Narcotics Anonymous program and helped hundreds of people battling addiction.  He volunteered at institutions in jails speaking on sobriety. He himself was 30 plus years clean. In 2021 the family relocated to Texas. Other hobbies included snowmobiling, jet skiing, camping, motocross racing, flying ultralight, singing and signing karaoke. One of his favorite songs to sing was “Girls just wanna have fun” by Cyndi Lauper. He also taught most of the kids to ride motorcycles. Darrell had a comedic sense of humor and always kept everyone laughing with a joke or singing a funny song. Darrell was a collector of all things and if you needed it – Darrell most likely has about four or five of it! He was a jack of all trades. If you needed it built, re-wired, welded, or taken apart and put back together – just call Darrell, he could do it all and then some. He and his wife enjoyed concerts, traveling to Sturgis together, dancing, and playing pool with their league. Darrell was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need even if it was sometimes to a fault. He also was an auctioneer. He was a workaholic and worked even to the point in his illness where working shouldn’t have been an option anymore. He may have slowed down, but when there were things to be done – Darrell got it done no matter the battle he himself was facing.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his grandma and grandpa Fenner; his grandma and grandpa Geiken; and brother in law, Gerald Greeley.

Darrell is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Becky Fenner; children, Laura Fenner, John Corder, Kimberly Hill, Angie Ebert, Shannon Carfield and wife Amber, Teresa Scoby and husband Brian, Jennifer Warner and husband Richard, Kristen Perry Fowler and husband Steve; sisters, Jolene Davis and husband Don, Anita Greeley; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews; other family members and friends.
