Dennis Odom passed away peacefully at home on October 12, 2025 at 4:40 am at the age of 64, surrounded by his devoted wife and beloved family.
Born on June 5, 1961, in Newton, Texas, Dennis was the cherished son of Chester and Merlene Odom. He grew up in Kirbyville and graduated from Newton High School in 1979. His roots ran deep, and he often said, “I would NOT give anything for the way I grew up.” As a teenager, Dennis explored Kirbyville on his bike and camped at Trout Creek with cousins and friends. Family time “on the hill” were some of his cherished memories.
Dennis is survived by his loving wife, Brenda; daughters Jessica Rivette (Hunter) and Kristen Schutte (Tanner); and stepchildren -Ryan Mott (Whitney), LeAnna Isenhower (Lucas), and Matthew Mott (Becca). He was a proud grandfather to Halee Clark, Jax Dowdy, Sawyer Schutte, Beau Schutte, Aubrey Mott, Emerson Smith, Rylee Simmons, Anson Isenhower, Ethan Isenhower, Baker Mott, and Allison Mott.
He is also survived by his siblings: Dale Odom (Marlinda), Dexter Odom (Sarita), David Odom (Paula), and sister Delores Odom. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Derial and Dan Odom.
Dennis spent many years in construction before retiring from WestRock in 2023 after 21 years as a process operator. He was a dedicated member of the United Steelworkers union, serving as both vice president and president, always advocating for his fellow workers. He also contributed to the HERO safety program at the mill for five years. His colleagues became lifelong friends—Carlos Briseno, Ricky Kroner, Tim Walters, and many others.
A passionate golfer, Dennis could often be found on the course, rain or shine, cold or sweltering heat. He was a quiet yet fierce competitor, known for his favorite saying: “It’s just a chip and a putt.” He especially treasured rounds with his brother Dale and his golf buddies Joc Belk, Bobby Woodard, Larry Stone and many more. Champion Ranch in Silsbee was one of his favorite places to play.
Dennis was a man of few words, but when he spoke, people listened. He was intelligent, witty, fun-loving, wise, and kind. A natural problem-solver, he could fix anything mechanically and found joy working with his tractor in his garden. He could have been a winner on Wheel of Fortune.
In 2013, Dennis met Brenda—the love of his life. They married on October 11, 2014, and shared a beautiful life filled with golf, travel, car shows, and quiet mornings on the porch with coffee. Time spent with friends Kathy and Ken Reeves in Spicewood and watching their grandchildren play sports brought him immense happiness.
A heartfelt thank you to Olive Branch Heart to Heart Hospice for the excellent, compassionate care they gave Dennis. MD Anderson and Texas Oncology provided outstanding care for Dennis. The oncologists and nurses will always hold a special place in my heart.
Let us not dwell on his passing but instead celebrate the life he lived and honor his memory by cherishing every moment with those we love. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Fishers of Men Food Pantry at Turning Point Church-Vidor. Please make checks payable to Fishers of Men and mail to 205 Harris St, Vidor, Tx 77662.
