Edna Himmelreich

Edna Murphy Himmelreich, 96, of Silsbee went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday April 26, 2020. She was born in Silsbee to Charles and Eunice Murphy on June 19, 1923.  She was the youngest of nine children. Edna loved to hunt, fish, craft, garden and spend time with her family. She especially enjoyed visits with her great grand children Jadon and Riley Jones and Collins Carter.  She was an avid seamstress and Master Gardener.  She loved plants and being outdoors.  Edna was a charter member of the First Assembly of God Church in Silsbee where she was a Sunday school teacher from the time she was a teenager.  She also started the first Missionette program as well as the first Childrens Church Program. She was a choir member, nursery attendant, VBS coordinator, an officer in the Christ Ambassadors and the Women’s Ministries.  She loved the Lord with all her heart and loved serving in all aspects of His work.She married her husband, Fred Himmelreich, on December 23, 1939.  Soon after he headed off to fight in World War II. During the war she became a welder at the Pennsylvania Shipyard in Beaumont where she helped to build ships for the war effort.  Edna is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Fred, and her siblings.  She is survived by her daughters Peggy Jones and husband Wendell of Silsbee, Becky Gilbert and late husband Denny of Silsbee, and Linda Gilbert and husband Gary.  Four grandchildren Devin Jones and wife Rebecca, Jacey-Kay Carter and husband Jared, Kim West and Kris Brogdon, and eight great grandchildren.

Visitation will be 5-8 pm Thursday.  Funeral Services will be held at 2 pm Friday, May 1, 2020, at Farmer Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Briggs officiating.  (Family request we still practice social distancing.). Interment will follow at R. S. Farmer Cemetery.
