Franklin Orr Obituary

Franklin Dee Orr, known far and wide as "The Col.," was born on September 28, 1939, in Bernie, Missouri. He passed away peacefully on December 29, 2024, in Lumberton, Texas, where he had made his home for many years.

A successful, self-made, self-employed entrepreneur--against all odds--, Franklin built a fulfilling life characterized by his passion for cars and antiquing. He was a proud 8 year veteran of the United States Air Force with whom he served his country in Vietnam. And he graduated top of his class at The School of Hard Knocks.

He cherished the time spent with family and friends, as well as his priceless furbabies. Franklin was a generous spirit, known for his larger-than-life personality and unwavering willingness to help those in need without question or expectation of reward. His legacy is one of kindness and compassion, deeply marking the lives of those around him.

Franklin's devotion to his family was exemplified in his marriage to June, his eternally beloved bride. Together, they shared endless love and countless shared adventures, creating enduring memories and a bountiful life for both.

Franklin's commitment to the spirit of giving extended far beyond himself. He would not hesitate to help a stranger. He was involved in various community initiatives, notably church and charity auctions, where he contributed his time and resources to lift up those less fortunate and support the word of Jesus. He encouraged others to walk with him on the road of compassion--an enduring bit of wisdom often shared in his favorite phrase: "vaya con Dios."

Franklin was preceded in his heavenward journey by his mother Aliene, father Everett; siblings Junior, Joyce, Norma, and Bobby; and daughter Debbie.

He is survived by his wife June; son Eric Orr & wife Shawn; son Dustin Orr; granddaughter Laurin Stokes & husband Jarrod; granddaughter Natile Schexnider & husband Caleb; grandchildren Crystal Spittler, Nick LaRose, Brandon LaRose, Brian Firebaugh, and Melanie Cumbie; and 14 great grandchildren.

"The Col." leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, faith, and an absence as big as his personality. He will be long remembered fondly by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure and privilege of knowing him.
