George Arnold Glasspool Jr. ("Steve")

George Arnold Glasspool Jr., known simply as Steve to everyone who knew and loved him, passed away on June 30, 2026, at the age of 75.

Steve was born on March 30, 1951, at Fort Benning, Georgia, to George Arnold Glasspool Sr. and Esther Louise Mooney (née Hext). Though born in Georgia, Southeast Texas became his true home, he spent most of his life in Silsbee, where he built lifelong friendships and an enduring musical legacy.

Steve served his country in the United States Army before returning home to live a life defined by carpentry, creativity, and music. A skilled carpenter by trade, there seemed to be nothing he couldn't build with his hands. Whether repairing, crafting, or creating something from scratch, Steve possessed a rare talent for making ideas become reality.

But if there was one thing that truly defined him, it was music.

A gifted bass player, songwriter, and reluctant singer, Steve spent decades performing throughout Southeast Texas. Over the years, he shared the stage with countless talented musicians including Vinny Montalbano, Scott McGill, Paul Orta, John Campbell, Dickey Peltier, Lynn Thousands, Sammy Daigle, Wade Bell, David Young, and many others who became lifelong friends. His reputation in the Southeast Texas music community was built not only on his remarkable talent, but on his authenticity, generosity, and unmistakable love of making music.

Even after suffering a stroke later in life that affected his vision and mobility, Steve's passion never faded. While many things became more difficult, his ability to play the bass guitar never wavered. Music remained his constant companion and one of the greatest expressions of who he was.

Above all else, Steve loved his family. He was the proud father of five children: Clancy, Paige, Stevie, Arly, and Marrakesh. He was also a beloved grandfather to Ezeb, Mia, Raven, and Shelbie, each of whom brought him tremendous joy. He is also survived by his brother, Charles Ray Glasspool.

Steve will be remembered as a man who lived life on his own terms. He was a talented musician, a gifted craftsman, and someone whose strength, wit, and love for music left an unforgettable impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. His legacy lives on in the songs he played, the things he built, the family he loved, and the many friendships he cultivated over the years.

A Celebration of Steve's Life will be held in the manner he wished at Honky Tonk Texas on July 18th from 12-4pm. Please join us and bring your instrument to play and send up a joyful noise for him to hear.

For Steve, music was never just something he played, it was the way he connected with the world. His music may have come to an end, but it echoes on, and the memories he created will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
