Huey Ray Lovelady, 92, of Silsbee, passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loved ones. Huey was born in Evadale, Texas to Jeremiah and Annie Lovelady. He spent all his adult life in Silsbee and on November 8, 1953, married Therese Jeanette Landry. They enjoyed a long marriage of 64 years before Jeanette passed away after a long illness.
In 1945, at the age of 17, Huey enlisted in the service and after serving in the European theater for the remainder of WWII, he took a civil service job. He began working on the mothballed “Liberty Fleet” of cargo ships anchored in the Neches River east of Beaumont. Huey became a journeyman electrician and worked for IBEW Local Union 479, Beaumont for the next 42 years, retiring in 1989. He was well respected and liked by his fellow union members and honored at many of their yearly functions
Huey and Jeanette were proactive in their commitment to monitoring conditions at local nursing homes where some of his elderly friends and relatives resided. Huey was a practicing Catholic and a member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church of Silsbee, TX. He loved politics and both he and Jeanette were staunch Democrats who never failed to vote in all local, state or national elections. Huey was a generous man with a big-hearted attitude toward all. He was a friend to the downtrodden and the oppressed and quick to forgive. Though opinionated, he made it a point to listen and was open minded and compassionate in his dealing with everyone he met. He was a gift to his family and asset to his community, and will be sorely missed.
