Huey Lovelady Obituary

Huey Ray Lovelady, 92, of Silsbee, passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loved ones.  Huey was born in Evadale, Texas to Jeremiah and Annie Lovelady.  He spent all his adult life in Silsbee and on November 8, 1953, married Therese Jeanette Landry.  They enjoyed a long marriage of 64 years before Jeanette passed away after a long illness.

In 1945, at the age of 17, Huey enlisted in the service and after serving in the European theater for the remainder of WWII, he took a civil service job.  He began working on the mothballed “Liberty Fleet” of cargo ships anchored in the Neches River east of Beaumont.  Huey became a journeyman electrician and worked for IBEW Local Union 479, Beaumont for the next 42 years, retiring in 1989.  He was well respected and liked by his fellow union members and honored at many of their yearly functions

Huey and Jeanette were proactive in their commitment to monitoring conditions at local nursing homes where some of his elderly friends and relatives resided.  Huey was a practicing Catholic and a member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church of Silsbee, TX.  He loved politics and both he and Jeanette were staunch Democrats who never failed to vote in all local, state or national elections. Huey was a generous man with a big-hearted attitude toward all.  He was a friend to the downtrodden and the oppressed and quick to forgive.  Though opinionated, he made it a point to listen and was open minded and compassionate in his dealing with everyone he met.  He was a gift to his family and asset to his community, and will be sorely missed.

Huey is survived by 6 children, Jerry (Kristi) of Beaumont, Desiree Bryant of Katy, Stephen of Beaumont, TX, Tammy Gouthier (Phillip) of Silsbee, Gregory (Carolyn)of Reklaw, and Jan Lovelady and her life partner Sheila Mathis of Silsbee.  Also left to cherish his memory are 11 grandchildren:  Amy Bryant, Blithe Bryant, Jana Gouthier McInnis (David), Jessa Gouthier Walton, Phillip Gouthier, Jr., Daniel Lovelady (Jing Jing Zhou), Tracy Lea Lovelady, Josh Lovelady (Whitney), Lacey Lovelady, Mandi Lovelady and partner Clayton Barnett, and April Hodges (Andy).  Also survivng Huey are 15 great grandchildren:  Bonnie McInnis, Aidan Bryant, Britton Bryant, Mylah Lovelady, Annemarie Lovelady, Evelyn Jilin Lovelady, Alexander Jiqing Lovelady, Nolan Gothier, Izabella Walton, Jacob Yates, Austin Yates, Madison Yates, London Yates, Memphis Yates, Jackson Yates, Malachi Arnold and Raeah Arnold, and one great-great-grand child, Abby Yates.

Huey’s sisters-in-law Pearl Landry Mobley of Silsbee and Gloria Landry Johnson of Kountze also survive him.  Surviving nieces and nephews include Maureen Lovelady, wife of Victor (deceased), Sandra Screws, Debbie Patrick (Stanley), Michael Lovelady (Wanda), Ronald Landry, Mark Landry, and Kevin Smith.  Also surviving are Surviving great nieces and nephews Erin Lemoine (Jessica), Ashley Lovelady Koch (George), Kevin Lovelady, Jason Lovelady, Grant Lovelady.
