Irene (Runnels) Johnson

Irene Johnson, 77, of Houston passed away on December 16, 2020 in Silsbee, Texas. Irene was born on May 10, 1943 to her parents, Henry Jasin Runnels and Etter Ard Runnels.

Irene was born and raised in Silsbee, Texas where she also graduated high school. Irene married for a short time and moved to Houston where she independently raised two sons and a daughter. She was a devoted Telephone Operator for South Western Bell of thirty-two years and never missed a day of work. Irene would later marry the love of her life, Ray Johnson, the man her children would call “Dad”. Irene’s family doubled; her three, Shannon, Buck, and Brenda; and Ray’s three, Kenneth, Donald, and Steve. Irene lived for her family, kids, and grandkids. Irene and Ray were together nearly forty years and were separated only by his passing. She loved fishing, sewing, baking, and gardening.

Irene is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ray Johnson; and her two grandchildren, Richie Jordan and James E. Kartous Jr. “Jamy”.

Visitation will be held Friday, December 18, 2020 from 5-8pm at Farmer Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at Campground Cemetery in Glenmora, Louisiana at 1pm, Saturday, December 19, 2020.
