Jack Lynn Martin, 86, of Silsbee, Texas passed away on August 7, 2022. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Mary Catherine Martin; his three sons, Roger Martin (Kirsten); Paul Martin (Suzanne); and Steven Martin (Denise); nine grandchildren, Craig Martin (Courtney); Corey Martin (Antje); Tanner Hawthorne (Logan); Adam Hawthorne; Sean Martin; Sydney Madison; Eric Martin; Jaxson Martin; Sheridan Martin; four great-grandchildren, Rilynn Martin; Hunter Martin; Remington Martin; and Kayden Martin; brother, James Martin (Gwen). He is preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Martin and his parents, Ellis and Frances Martin. 

Jack was born in Nacogdoches, Texas and raised in Victoria, Texas, where he excelled in basketball. In 1955 he was awarded Texas Class 3A All-State Honors as a member of the Texas Class 3A State Champion Victoria High School basketball team. Jack served in the National Guard and was activated during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He and his family moved to Silsbee in 1968 with Southwestern Bell to establish phone service in the rural regions of Southeast Texas from Silsbee to Jasper. In Silsbee, Jack became an active member of Silsbee Country Club and in 2000 he became the first club member to win the Country Club Championship in three separate decades. He was active in the Silsbee community where he was president of the Silsbee Little League, was integral in the organization of the Silsbee Little Dribblers program, served on the Silsbee Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and as an Election Judge for Hardin County. Jack was a member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Silsbee where he served in many capacities, including the Parish Council and the Finance Committee. Jack enjoyed spending time with family, golfing with friends and playing chickenfoot at Young at Heart; he especially looked forward to deer hunting with his brother James, nephew Jimmy and son Roger. Jack enjoyed attending his sons’ and grandchildren’s athletic events and took great pride in their success.

A visitation service will be held at Farmer’s Funeral Home on Thursday, August 11, 2022 from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Silsbee on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at 1:00 pm. The family asks, that in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to either the Hardin County Christian Care Center, P.O. Box 2050, Silsbee, TX 77656 or St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 905 N 9th Street, Silsbee, Texas 77656.
