Jean Burnett, 81, of Evadale received her wings and went to walk with the angels Wednesday, March 15,
2023. She was born on May 20, 1941 in Silsbee to the late Clyde Hoke and Willie Mae Tanton Hoke.
Jean made her living as a sales clerk at Young’s Supermarket in Evadale. She married her husband JD
Burnett and they were wed for 51 years until the time of his death in 2015. Jean enjoyed many hobbies
such as fishing, playing dice, cards, dominoes, sitting on her porch, enjoying a fire, making floral
arrangements, enjoying a good margarita, cooking, and spending time with her family. She was happiest
when her home was full and she was cooking for those that she loved. Jean was a loving wife, mother,
Big Nanny, sister and friend. Jean was also confident in her faith and loved the Lord. She will be deeply
missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Willie Mae Hoke; her husband, JD Burnett; sisters,
Marie Ard and Linda Crawford; stepchildren, John Dewayne Burnett and Rebecca Dunagan.
Jean is survived by her daughter, Joyce Crowder and husband Mark of Toledo Bend, Billy Denby and wife
Bonnie of Jasper; sister, Alice Travis of Mississippi; brothers, Eddie Hoke and wife Annette of Evadale,
Clyde Hoke Jr. and wife Lana of Evadale; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; two great great
grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.
