Jim Moss Obituary

Jim Nelson Moss, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away on July 15, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on August 9, 1936, in Evadale, Texas.

A proud country boy and Air Force veteran, Jim lived a life rooted in simple joys, deep values, and boundless love. With his wife, Audrey, by his side for 66 years, Jim helped build not just a home in the small town of Evadale, Texas, but a legacy of togetherness that stretched far beyond their porch, a gathering place for generations. What started as a house for his family became a sanctuary for friends, neighbors, and anyone in need of a warm welcome. Their door was always open for a hot cup of coffee, a plate of Granny’s breakfast, or simply a place to sit and tell stories. Their home was the heartbeat of every holiday and gathering, echoing with laughter, stories, and the clinking of plates at a table that always seemed to expand to fit one more.

Jim was a man who believed in the dignity of hard work. He worked the land with his hands, raising gardens that fed not just bellies, but also nourished connection and tradition. His kids and grandkids grew up learning to pull vegetables from the soil, shuck corn, and shell peas around a bucket. He showed us that a good day often starts early, ends tired, and is full of purpose in between. He also knew the value of stillness, the kind you find in the early morning quiet of a deer stand, where the world feels hushed and alive all at once.

He leaves behind his devoted wife, Audrey, and a family that reflects the love and strength he poured into them: sons Calvin and wife Rhonda, and Gene and Janette; daughters Jimmie and husband Rusty, and Janice and husband Bud; grandchildren Clint and wife Savannah, Trey and wife Dawn, Bridget and husband Joe, Josh, Chelsie, Ashton and husband Cameron, Jennifer and husband Jimmy, and Clint and wife Kelsey; and great-grandchildren Ashlyn, Kaelyn, Lexis, Brittyn, Conner, Baylee, Brooklyn, Bobby, Bradley, Gracie, Kanon, Bowen, Bria, Brynn, Kadence, and Beckett. He is also survived by his brothers Harold and Gerald, as well as numerous beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Bessie Moss; his siblings, Barbara, Lavern, Joy, David, Buford, Merlin, and Larry; and his son-in-law, Bobby.

Serving as pallbearers are Calvin, Gene, Clint, Trey, Josh, Tracy, Ryan, and Jarrod. Honorary pallbearers include Rusty, Derry, Joe, Cameron, David, Vance, Leslie, Matt, Todd, Jeffrey, Bud, Clint, and Jimmy.

Though Jim's hands have rested, his spirit carries on in every family meal shared, every garden tilled, every deer hunted, every screen door opened, every story passed down, and every extra chair pulled up to the table.
