John Frederick Basco

John Frederick Basco, 84, of Evadale passed away Monday, October 2, 2023. He was born on July 27, 1939 in Gorum, Louisiana to the late Ada Troquille Basco.

John was a veteran of the United States Army and served between the Korean and Vietnam War eras. He married his wife, Betty Jo Burrell on May 4, 1963 in Evadale, Texas and they were married for 60 years. He enjoyed many hobbies such as hunting, fishing, woodworking, being outdoors, and spending time with his family. John was a loving husband, father, Pawpaw, brother, and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is preceded in death by his mother; his daughter, Tammy Rene Basco; and his siblings, Herbert Basco, Jody Basco, Mary Read, Mattie Shillings, Majol Read, Donald Bordelon, Anna McMillon, and Barbara Dean Bordelon.

John is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Betty Jo Burrell Basco; children, John M. “Mike” Basco, Shelly Totten and husband Mike; grandchildren, Megan Nicole Basco-Guidry and husband Brent, Matthew Garrett Totten and fiancée Jayden, Jordan Tyler Totten, Kaitlynn Rene Basco and Alex Heintze; great grandchildren, Brennan Guidry, Grant Guidry, Karli Guidry, Maddie Guidry, Blakely Totten; sister, Alice Tassin; and numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other family members and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 3PM Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at Farmer Funeral Home with interment to follow at Morse Cemetery in Buna. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 2-3PM.

Serving as pallbearers will be Bill Burrell, Kirby Read, Blane Read, Bruce Read, Kevin Read, and Ryan Totten.
