Larry Laabs Obituary

Larry Allen Laabs, 77, passed away Friday, February 12, 2021. He was born January 4, 1944 in Morris, Illinois.

Larry served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam era. He was a member of the local VFW as well as the “Morris Moose Lodge” in Illinois.  Larry retired from Caterpillar as a welder. After retirement, Larry opened his own business, Morris Cafe 47 in Illinois. He was a man of many hobbies from building models to reading James Patterson novels and was also a fan of the Denver Broncos. Larry loved his family and was also known as “Lairdawg”. (A nickname his grandson TJ gave him that stuck.)  Larry had the biggest heart, the BEST sense of humor, and could make anyone laugh. He loved his dog Bella and last but not least, he was a HUGE Trump supporter. He was deeply loved and will be missed dearly.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Harry W. Laabs and Matilda Daugherty Laabs; his late wife, Sheryle Laabs; and his sons, Troy and Tony Laabs.

Larry is survived by his grandchildren, TJ Laabs and fiancée Savannah, Jessica Laabs, Nicholas Laabs, Jackie McConnell, Jacob McConnell; daughter in law, Christi Wilson and her husband Thomas; and his loving dog, Bella.

Larry’s ashes will be buried at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Houston at a later date.

Larry’s family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the Professional Healthcare Hospice team in Beaumont for their exceptional care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to them.
