Louella Marie Day, 86, of Buna passed away, Monday June 2, 2025. She was born Tuesday February 14, 1939, in Elton, Louisiana to the late Batson and Bessie LaFleur.
Louella was an active member at Central Baptist Church in Buna. She embraced her faith in everything she did, especially when she taught the children’s Sunday School classes. She spent her years as a stay-at-home mother, but when her children started to get older, she started babysitting children in the community, which lead her to be called Nanny until her oldest grandson was born, then all her grandchildren called her MawMaw. Lou and her husband Homer loved to travel, go on Gospel music weekend trips, and fishing trips with their friends the Fountains. She was well known for showing her Cajun roots in many ways but mostly in her Gumbo and lemon icebox pie. Louella was a loving wife, mother, MawMaw, sister, and friend; she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Homer Day Jr., her parents; her siblings, Hilda Cart, Leola LaFleur, Elaine Martindale, and Irvin LaFleur.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Jeff Day and wife Cathy and Kathy Chapman and husband Tracy; grandchildren, Zach Day and wife Ali, Collin Chapman and wife Courtney, and Carson Chapman; great granddaughter, Hailey Day; brother, Lloyd LaFleur and wife Rita; sister, Linda Richard; best friend of 64 years, Ruth Alexander; and a host of other family members and friends.
