Marie Monday

Marie Monday, 98, of Kountze passed away Friday, August 11, 2023. She was born on April 5, 1925 in Queen City, Texas to the late Hobson Ostico Buzbee and Verna Mae King Buzbee.

After graduating high school, being very patriotic during WWII, 16-year-old Marie worked in Texarkana, Texas wrapping bombshells. She continued her wartime efforts in California as she worked in an airplane factory tightening bolts on the airplane wings. Maire’s desire to help and her great love of children found her in the education field throughout many years of her life. She married her husband Wilburn Monday on May 18, 1944 in Linden, Texas and they were wed for 67 years until the time of his death in 2012. Marie was also a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Silsbee. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who will be dearly missed.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wilburn Monday; brothers, Charles Buzbee and T.A. Gillespie; and one sister, Gail Gillespie.

Marie is survived by her children, Brenda Bridges and husband Frank, Gary Monday and wife Laura; brother, Benny Jo Buzbee; grandchildren, Bryan Knight and wife Darlene, Brent Knight and wife Cristal, Meredith Pulliam; great grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Blake, Ashley, Jacob, Kolton, Easton, Kayla, Lane; great great grandchildren, Kinsley and Sebastian; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other family members and friends.
