Marie (Cooley) Smith

Marie Smith, 89, of Town Bluff, TX, passed away peacefully, surrounded by love, on Thursday, the 9th of April 2026. Born to the late Robert and Angie Cooley, Mrs. Smith, known as Marie, was a woman of exceptional talent and character. Described by her family as being “a firecracker”, she had a vibrant spirit that lifted those around her. She loved with passion, created with heart, and left a legacy that will not easily be forgotten. Marie spent her early years hand-crafting beautiful ceramics, expressing herself in the brightest way. She had a zeal for cooking and baked the most incredible sweets. Her dedication to her family shone through to every corner of her life, and nothing brought her greater joy. A close second to her love for her family was fishing, and she could often be found out on the river, line in the water.  If she wasn’t fishing, or baking, or smothering the grandchildren with love, she was keeping the faith at Wiley Mae Community Church. A true woman of God, she poured out love and life not only on her family but on everyone she knew. 

She is preceded in death by her loving husband of over 50 years, Leon Smith; her beloved son Curtis Smith; her brothers A.C and Elmer Cooley; her sisters Velma Self, Nancy West, and Hazel Dyson.

Her legacy is carried on by her devoted sons Carl “Bubba” Smith and his wife Arlene and Billy Smith and his wife Sue; grandchildren Jennifer Cox, Misty Guillory, Joy Gaspard, Brian Smith, Brandy Smith, Chelsea Smith, and Melissa Joseph; 10 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; her daughter-in-law Betsy Smith Collins, as well as numerous other family and friends. She will be deeply and fondly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
