Mattie Gardner Obituary

With heartfelt love and deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Mattie Lea Gardner, who peacefully departed this life on August 8, 2025, at the age of 99.
Born on April 1, 1926, in Honey Island, Texas Mattie Lea lived a life defined by grace, resilience, and unwavering devotion to her family and faith. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend and teacher whose gentle presence and kind spirit left a lasting impact on everyone she met.
Mattie Lea is survived by her children, Larry Gardner and wife Karen of Silsbee, and Harry Gardner and wife Nancy of Zavalla; her grandchildren, Lee Evan Gardner and wife Lacey of Beaumont, Katie Parish and husband Justin of Buna, Jason Gardner and wife Holly of New Braunfels, Kirkland Gardner and wife Dayna of Woodville and Tori English and husband Blake of Arp; and her cherished great-grandchildren, Abel English, Luke Parish, Elliot Gardner, and Lane Gardner.
Pallbearers include Larry Gardner, Harry Gardner, Bill Wiggins, Lee Evan Gardner, Jason Gardner and Justin Parish.
Honorary Pallbearer is Luke Parish. 
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, Harold Gardner, as well as her parents, brother, and sister.
Mattie Lea’s life was a reflection of quiet strength, deep love, and enduring faith. She took great pride in her family and found joy in life’s simple blessings—whether gathered around the dinner table, playing bridge or dominos, riding the waves, walking on the beach or reading scripture. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
A service celebrating Mattie Lea’s life will be held on August 10, 2025 at Silsbee Methodist Church, with visitation beginning at 2:00 p.m. and funeral services at 3:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Lindsey Cemetery in Warren, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Silsbee Methodist Church.
Though she is no longer with us in body, we rejoice that her spirit is in Heaven and her love and light will remain in our hearts forever.
