On Tuesday, March 30, 2021 Melton Yarbrough, loving husband and father of 8 children passed away at age 96.
Mel was born on September 26, 1924 in Gardendale, Tx to Bob and Thelma Yarbrough. He was drafted in 1943 into the US Army’s 97th Infantry Division and served as a medic on two fronts, Germany and Japan. He was employed by Haliburton and worked in the oil industry in the US and internationally in Libya and Venezuela and after retiring, farmed acreage near Shiner, Tx.
Mel married Idell July 4th, 1975 and lived in Shiner until 1990 when they relocated to Silsbee, Tx. Jointly, they had three sons, Zoren, Jimmy and Ronnie and five daughters Rosemary, Betty, Ann, Sharon and Yvonne.
Mel had a passion for being outside and working on his farm and mechanical equipment and was always helping others with their problems. He loved to travel with Idell and he had a kind heart and independent spirit.
Mel was preceded in death by his father, Bob, his mother, Thelma, his beloved wife Idell, his brother Haven, sons, Zoren and Jimmy and daughter Rosemary. He is survived by five children Betty, Ronnie, Ann, Sharon and Yvonne and much loved grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren who all referred to him as Grandpa Farmer.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 10th at the Magnolia Cemetery, 2291 Pine Street, Beaumont, Tx 77703 at 11:00 o’clock a.m. In lieu of flowers, you are welcome to support your favorite military charity.
