Nicky Jay Gilbert, 76, beloved husband, father, grandfather (PaPa) and great-grandfather of Lumberton died Tuesday, May 19, 2020. He leaves behind his wife, Rachael Gilbert of Lumberton; Brother Gary Dell Gilbert and wife Linda of Panama City, FL; Sister-in-law Becky Gilbert of Silsbee; Sister-in-law Rose Lummus of Kirbyville; Sister-in-law Mary Jo Gerald; Brother-in-law Billy Gerald of Kirbyville; son, Tony Gendron and wife Melody of Tampa, FL; son Chris Gendron of Indianapolis; daughter, Nicole Cole and husband Philip of Sam Rayburn; Clay Gilbert and wife Tammie of Silsbee; Wade Gilbert and wife Lisa of Lufkin; Casey Gilbert and wife Sonia of Austin; and the following grandchildren: oldest grandson Jason Gilbert and wife Erin of Silsbee; Derik Gendron of Maumee; Brittiany Gendron of Tampa, FL; Robert Gendron of Coconut Creek, FL; Martin Gendron of Tampa, FL; Rylie Gendron of Chicago, IL; Sydney Gendron of Indianapolis, IN; Annie Gendron of Indianapolis, IN; Taylor Webb of Lumberton, TX; Hunter Sheard of Beaumont, TX; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by father, John Thomas Gilbert; mother, Lorene Jeanette (Steward) Gilbert; and brother, Denny Erbin Gilbert.
Nicky loved life, Rachael, family, a good laugh, great-grandson “Jarrbear” Jarrett Belk Jr, a 5 pound demon Maltese named Princess and beer. His wide-ranging work life from an early age included management at Coca-Cola, heavy equipment mechanic at Brown and Root, work in Iraq as a diesel mechanic and work for the Newton School District as a mechanic as just a few of his interests. He was a giant of a man with an even larger heart.
The family resides in the hope and joy of seeing Nicky again and know he was greeted by Denny Gilbert, Clyde Lummus and Bubba Gerald. His easy chair is empty, but his memory and impact on the lives of so many will carry on forever.
Family viewing was held on May 22, 2020 at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee TX and burial on May 24, 2020 at Friendship Cemetery in Friendship, TX.
