Patricia “Pat” Day
March 17, 1931 – January 1, 2026
Patricia “Pat” Day, age 94, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2026. Born on March 17, 1931, Pat lived a long life rooted in family, hard work, and quiet joys.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arvel "Bud" Day; her son, Arvel "Butch" Day Jr; her parents, John and Pearl Hare; her siblings, Forrest Hare, Buster Rucker, JP Hare, Maxine Smith, Maurine Iwasko, Ima Franklin, Nina Franklin, Dorothy Sandlin, Deniece Garsee, and Wanda Reynolds; and her beloved nephew, Forrest Carson.
Pat is survived by her daughter, Patty Roach; her daughter-in-law, Sabra Day; and her sister, Betty Jo Wagstaff.
She leaves behind a large and loving family who will forever cherish her memory, including her grandchildren, Brent Day, Brandon Day, Britni Burgin and her husband Gary, and Kendra Stokes. Pat was also blessed with many great-grandchildren—Grace, Faith, Skylar, JR, Anzlee, Paxton, Ember, Ridge, Austin, and Natalie—as well as two great-great-grandchildren, Serenity and Scarlett. She is also lovingly remembered by the family of her nephew, Forrest.
Pat found joy in working with her hands and being close to nature. She loved fishing with her family, tending to her garden, propagating plants and flowers, and caring for her chickens. Over the years, she also enjoyed the company of a miniature donkey and her grandson’s dog, Hazel. One of her favorite pastimes was watching hummingbirds for hours on end from outside her kitchen window—a simple pleasure that brought her great peace.
Pat also had a special love for Halloween. She delighted in the fun of building spook houses and sitting back to watch the excitement and laughter as children made their way through them. Those moments of creativity, joy, and family togetherness were among her favorites.
Above all else, Pat loved her family deeply. She expressed that love through her cooking, which was legendary to those who knew her. Her cornbread was said to be the best in the world, and no visit was complete without her black cherry Kool-Aid. Pat had an uncanny ability to know exactly how much food she would need—always enough to feed everyone, whether expected or not.
Pat and Bud Day shared many years together and owned several properties throughout their lives. Ultimately, they chose Silsbee as the place to settle and call home for the remainder of their lives,
building a legacy rooted in family and community.
In the last eight months of her life, Pat was greatly cared for and deeply loved by the staff and residents of Woodville Convalescent Health and Rehab, where she was affectionately known as “Momma.” Her kindness, warmth, and nurturing spirit touched all who knew her there.
Patricia “Pat” Day will be remembered for her generous heart, steady presence, and the love she poured into her family and home. Her legacy lives on through the many generations she helped shape.
