Robert Duel “R.D.” Howard, 92, of Lumberton, died Monday, June 2, 2025 at his residence. He was born on Sunday, November 6, 1932, to Eugene Victor and Minnie Evelyn (Bradley) Howard, in Hollis, Oklahoma.
All people die, but not all people truly live. R.D. packed a lot of life into his 92 years here on this earth. He was a United States Army Veteran having served in the Korean War. Although he was a man’s man, he gladly humbled himself in the service of others. Whether he was at work or home, he always went the extra mile. He dearly loved his family, tending his cows, and all things “John Wayne”. He will forever remain a loving husband, father, Paw Paw, and friend.
Survivors include his son, Wes Howard and his wife, Sandra; daughters, Vickie Carney and Carol Hargraves and her husband, Roger; grandchildren, Wayne Perkins and his wife, Courtney, Doug Hargraves and his fiancé, Zuhra Haynes, Alise Mason and her husband, Chad, Addi Howard, Cole Howard, and Clansi Montes and her husband, Chris; great-grandchildren, Kennedy, Mason, Addison, Christian, Makaila, Aly, Calem, Eden, Wesley, and Cooper; brothers, Ed Howard and his wife, Lynda; and Leon Howard; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Alice Virginia “Ginny” Howard; son, Roger Douglas Howard; and siblings, Ila Maxine Harmon, Darrell and Donald Ray Howard.
