Tommie Mae Stanford passed away June 15, 2020 at her home in Silsbee. She was born September 15, 1941 in Loeb, Texas to Tom and Mildred Condray. Despite losing her parents very early in life, and being raised by her grandmother, Annie Ray, she excelled in school. She skipped two grades, allowing her to graduate two years early from Silsbee High School in 1958.
She married her high school sweetheart, Tommy Stanford, on March 20, 1958.
Tommie worked as a Title Clerk for the former Judge Earl “Smokey” Stover for several years. Then, as a secretary for Kirby Lumber Company, before opening her own floral business.
She was a long-time member of Wiley Mae Community Baptist Church prior to becoming a member of Calvary Tabernacle, where she quickly became known as “Mawmaw.” She loved God and being a servant for His Kingdom. She was always willing to jump in and help wherever she could. Although confined to a hospital bed for the last months of her life, she did not let that stop her from being a witness to everyone who came through her door.
Tommie enjoyed reading, cross-stitching, baking, and recently became an avid Amazon shopper. She cherished her family and attended nearly every event that her grandchildren were involved in. She delighted in spoiling friends and family, and always had goodies for the ones she loved.
In a few words, she is best described as loving, thoughtful, and a warrior.
Survivors include son William T. Stanford Jr. and wife Kelly of Kountze; daughters Sherry Sharp and husband Paul, and Christi Smith and husband Donald, all of Silsbee; grandchildren Mandi, Brandon and wife Gennifer, Maegan, and DJ and wife Katrina; great grandchildren Aubrie, Korbin, Baylen, Brayden, Brooklyn, Kairi, and Vincent; and several other special family members and friends.
Tommie is preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, William Tommy Stanford Sr., of 58 years.
Graveside services will be 10:00 am Friday, June 19, 2020 at R S Farmer Memorial Cemetery in Silsbee.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Compassion Hospice.
