Obituary

Karen Hardy Nolen Casses, 59, of Silsbee passed away Friday, January 13, 2023. She was born on November 13, 1963 in Houston to the late WL Hardy and Glenda Faye Rayel Cole Hardy Borque.

Karen lived out what she believed. It was evident through the devotion of her heart to those she loved. Karen put all of her time, energy, and love into her sons James, John, and their families. She possesed a true servant’s heart and and lived the way she had always lived, loving and serving everyone she knew and those she met along the way. Karen trusted the Word and leaned into the verse, Matthew 17:20 “For truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.” Karen will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know and love her.

She is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Rebecca Faye Nolen; aunt, Ollie Hardy; and uncle, Karl Hardy.

Karen is survived by her sons, James Nolen and Laura Cooper, John Nolen; grandchildren, Rebecca Nolen, Rowan Nolen, Zayn Nolen; sister, Robin Pavel and husband Walter “Budd” Pavel; step sister, Bonnie Jagers and husband David; nieces and nephews, Kristen Wicker and husband Kevin, William Sandstedt, Michael Sandstedt and wife Ashley, Erin Vieck, Drew Pavel; great nieces and nephews, Preston, Brooks, Colette, Estelle, Layla, Sophie, Julia, Travis, Hannah, Katelyn, Dawson, Baylor; aunt, Sue B. Hardy; uncles, Joe Hardy and wife Sue M., Robert “Bob” Hardy, Paul Hardy and wife Verla; cousins, Terri Jo and husband David, Jerri and husband Morris, Cherry and husband Eldon, Joe Bob, Cathy and husband Roger, Jimmy, Paula and husband John, Darlene and husband Michael, Darrell; and a host of other family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to "Sharyn the Blessings" through the Silsbee Police Department. Contact Jamie Plaunty for donations and information at (409)385-3714.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt “thank you” to Ms. Leona McMahon for her enduring friendship. She devoted much time and energy ensuring that Karen could sustain her lifestyle and faithful service to the City of Silsbee. She is appreciated more than words could ever convey.

“I have loved, therefore I have lived.”
